George has visited Kyoto in Japan with Erik. They went to see the KiyoMizu-dera(清水寺) which is a Buddhist temple.The temple is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage site. 20121112-182754.jpg

George also visited Kyoto Botanical Garden(京都府立植物園). It is a major botanical garden with conservatory.The garden was established in 1924, but fell into disuse in 1946. It was again started in 1961. As of 2007, it contains about 120,000 plants representing some 12,000 species. 20121112-183757.jpg

George visited Higashi Hongan-ji(東本願寺). The temple is also known as the Eastern Temple of the Original Vow. It is one of two dominant sub-sects of Shin Buddhism.Higashi Honganji was established in 1602 by the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu when he split the Shin sect in two (Nishi Honganji being the other) in order to diminish its power. 20121112-184706.jpg

Sydney, Australia, October 2012

George has visited Sydney in Australia with Erik and Torben. Sydney has many famous landmarks. The most famous one must be The Sydney Opera House, that was designed by the Dane Jørn Utzon.The Sydney Opera House is also featured in LEGO's Architecture Line. 20121107-214528.jpg

Obviously there is a streetnamed after George, as he is getting more and more famous every day.George Street used to be Sydney's high street. It is still one of the busiest streets in the city centre and it has more high rise buildings than on any other street in Australia. Elsinore, Denmark, October 2012

George has visited The Danish Museum of Science and Technologywith Sigfus, Trond and Madeline. The museum is a private institution, founded in 1911 in Copenhagen.George saw the replica of The Ellehammer Semi-biplane, that was a pioneering aircraft flown in Denmark in 1906. Jacob Ellehammer built the aircraft based on his monoplane design of the previous year. 20121103-171221.jpg
From september 2002 the entire museum has relocated to a former iron foundry in Elsinore from the 1960s and has been extended to 8000 square metres exhibit.George saw the first Royal car of Denmark it was a 1906 Delauney-Belleville. 20121103-155739.jpg

The museum has a lot of car from Falck A/S and Falck Zonen.Falck A/S was founded in 1906 by Sophus Falck. 50 years later Falck was a nation-wide operator with 100 rescue stations in Denmark, and the company expanded further seven years later by acquiring the shares of the Zonen rescue service, their main Danish road assistance competitor. Coast to coast, USA, September 2012

George has been on a long ride across the USA together with Inge and Troels. They started out in New York and were going all the way to San Francisco.George was on a ferry ride and saw the New York skyline. This time on a clear day. 20121026-192813.jpg

In the evening he was at the Empire State Building to see all the city lights.The name is derived from the nickname for New York, the Empire State. It was the tallest building for 40 years, until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, the Empire State Building was again the tallest building in New York. It was once again demoted to second-tallest building in New York on April 30, 2012, when the new 1WTC reached a greater height. 20121026-192845.jpg
From New York George went to Philadelphia where he saw Independence Hall, which is known as the location where both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.In this photograph George lost one of his feet. 20121026-192854.jpg
One-legged George also saw the Liberty Bell - again. The bell must be the most iconic symbol of American independence. The bell was commissioned from the London firm of Lester and Pack (today the Whitechapel Bell Foundry) in 1752, and was cast with the lettering (part of Leviticus 25:10) "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof." 20121026-192859.jpg
From Philadelphia one-legged George travelled to Washington DC, where he visited the Marine Corps War Memorial a.k.a the Iwo Jima Memorial. It is outside the walls of the Arlington National Cemetery and is dedicated to all personnel of the United States Marine Corps who have died in the defense of their country since 1775.The design of the sculpture by Felix de Weldon was based on the iconic photo Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, taken during the Battle of Iwo Jima by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal. 20121026-192905.jpg

He also saw the White House —The Stars and Stripes atop the White House was lowered on the day after President Barack Obama ordered all flags on government buildings to half mast to honour Americans slain in Libya. “I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds,” Obama said in a proclamation. 20121026-192934.jpg
From Washington one-legged George went all the way to Niagara Falls. The falls are three waterfalls that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. 20121026-192943.jpg

In Chicago he saw the famous bean. The real name is Cloud Gate. It is sculptured by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor. It was constructed between 2004 and 2006, and is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its shape. 20121026-203413.jpg
One-legged George passed Badlands National Park in southwest South Dakota. It preserves 242,756 acres (98,240 ha) of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires blended with the largest protected mixed grass prairie in the United States. 20121026-203419.jpg
After Badlands one-legged George came to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The sculpture is carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone. It is sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum. It shows George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln (left to right) and represents the first 130 years of the history of the United States. 20121026-203429.jpg
Then one-legged George went to Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone, widely held to be the first national park in the world, is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is dominant. 20121026-203442.jpg

Città di Lucca, Italy, September 2012

George has visited Città di Lucca with Nina. Città di Lucca is famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls.The walls remained intact as the city expanded and modernized. As the walls lost their military importance, they became a pedestrian promenade which encircled the old town, although they were used for a number of years in the 20th century for racing cars. They are still fully intact today; each of the four principal sides is lined with a different tree species. 20121019-171520.jpg

Amsterdam, Netherlands, October 2012

George has visited Amsterdam with Carsten. They were very cultural and visited Amsterdam Historic Museum.The Amsterdam historical museum is housed in magnificent buildings, once the city Orphanage. The red flag with the black stripe depicts three Saint Andrew's Crosses and is based on the escutcheon in the coat of arms of Amsterdam. The flag is quite young and was adopted as late as February 5, 1975. The museum offers a permanent exhibition telling the history of Amsterdam. The collection consists of paintings, prints, marquette's, objects and archaeological finds. 20121018-202029.jpg

Vancouver, Canada, October 2012

Here George is at the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver.The Lions Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the first narrows of Burrard Inlet. And here George is at the Shannon Falls in the Shannon Falls Provincial Park.Shannon Falls is composed of a series of cliffs, rising 335 metres, making it the third highest falls in the province, ranking behind 481 metre Della Falls in Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Island and 396 metre Hunlen Falls in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park near Bella Coola. Berlin, Germany, September 2012

George has been to Berlin with Sigfus, Trond and Madeline. There he saw the Berliner. It's called Berlin Cathedral in English, even though it has never been a cathedral in the actual sense of that term since it has never been the seat of a bishop. 20121009-143544.jpg
Berlin being the capital of Germany has a lot of sights. One of the most famous is Brandenburger Tor or Gate in English. George saw the real Brandenburger Tor and the LEGO model in the LEGO Discovery Centre. 20121009-143611.jpg

He saw the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. It consists of a 19,000 square metres (4.7 acres) site covered with 2,711 concrete slabs or "stelae", arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field. George saw the Soviet War Memorial at Tiergarten. One of several war memorials in Berlin. It was erected by the Soviet Union to commemorate its war dead, particularly the 80,000 soldiers of the Soviet Armed Forces who died during the Battle of Berlin in April and May 1945. 20121009-143644.jpg

Myanmar, Yangon, September 2012

George has just been visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon in Myanmar with Karin.The Shwedagon Pagoda is 2600 year old and is made of a lot of gold. It is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda for the Burmese with relics of the past four Buddhas enshrined within: the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Koṇāgamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa and eight strands of hair of Gautama, the historical Buddha. 20120919-180248.jpg
George also saw the 42-ton Maha Tissada Gandha (great three-toned sweet sound) Bell that was donated in 1841 by King Tharrawaddy to the Shwedagon Pagoda.King Tharrawaddy reign was rife with rumours of preparations for another war with the British who had added the Arakan and Tenasserim to their dominions. 20120919-180303.jpg

Mongolia, September 2012

George has visited Mongolia with Hördur. They went to Sükhbaatar Square in Ulaanbaatar.Here George saw the statue of Ghengis Khan at the Saaral Ordon - The Mongolian Parliament Building. Ghengis Khan was the founder and Great Khan (emperor) of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his demise. 20120911-170703.jpg
The Sükhbaatar Square is the central square of Ulaanbaatar. The square is named after and features a statue of Damdin Sükhbaatar, who was the leader of Mongolia's 1921 revolution.The statue is located right in front of the Saaral Ordon. When the Mongolian Empire was at its greatest extent in 1279 it spanned 9,700 km (6,000 mi), covered an area of 24,000,000 km2 (9,300,000 sq mi) 16% of the Earth's total land area, and had a population of more than 100 million people. 20120911-170711.jpg

Malta, August 2012

George has visited Malta in the Mediterranean with Britt.The national symbol of Malta is the Maltese cross, also known as the Amalfi cross. It is identified as the symbol of an order of Christian warriors known as the Knights Hospitaller or Knights of Malta. Here George is standing right in the center of a Maltese cross in front of the Vilhena Palace in Mdina. Here George is at the festa in honor of the Assumption of Mary outside the Rotunda (Church of St. Mary) in Mosta.The church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and is built between the 1830s and 1860s. New York, USA, August 2012

George visited New York with Signe and Mathilde. They went to Central ParkThe Adopt-A-Bench program was established in 1986 as a permanent fund to maintain and endow the care of Central Park's more than 9,000 benches and their surrounding landscapes. In Central Park George also saw Strawberry Fields. Strawberry Fields is a 2.5-acre landscaped section in the park that is dedicated to the memory of the Beatle John Lennon. The park is named after The Beatles song "Strawberry Fields Forever".The park's focal point is a circular pathway mosaic of inlaid stones, with a single word, the title of Lennon's famous song: "Imagine". ; 20120907-171215.jpg
