George has just returned from a cultural trip to Provence with Annemette and Thomas. Here George is enjoying the scenic view from The Palais des Papes in Avignon. The castle is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe.

Trysil, Norway, March 2013


George has been to Trysil in Norway with Sofie and her parents. With its 31 lifts and 66 slopes totalling more than 70 kilometres Trysil is the largest ski destination in Norway
Here George is immortalized in the 40 P hole with Sofie peeking through the 30 P hole.

Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, January 2013

George has been heliskiing with Frederik and Anton in Whistler in Canada. Whistler being famous for hosting (Mountain Resort) the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. George did well on a fantastic day with a clear blue sky a lot of sun and a lot of new snow. George beat his old altitude record and reached more than 4,000 metres above sea level.

They were on four untouched mountain tops approximately 30 minutes by helicopter from Whistler.

Here George is back down safe and sound in front of the helicopter flanked by the pilot. It had been a fantastic day.

San Francisco, US, January 2013

George has visited San Francisco with Patrick. Here George is near the famous Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge is spanning the San Francisco Bay and is one of the most photographed bridges in the world.
George had serious business in San Francisco and visited 1601 Willow Rd.

Florida, US, January 2013


George has visited Florida with Jeanette and LeeAnn. They went to the beach and had to watch out for the wild and dangerous alligators. George studied the warning sign very closely.
Good reason to feel safe on the beach. George is keeping an eye on everything.
George was definitely The King Of The Sandcastle...

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, January 2013

George has visited Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam with Stoffer. They visited The War Remnants Museum. They saw a M48 Patton A3 tank on display This tank weighed 47.2 tons and had a maximum speed of 30 mph. It carried a 90mm gun as well as a 50 cal machine gun.

Mumbai, India, January 2013

George has returned from a trip to Mumbai with Jonas. They visited Mani Bhavan (Gandhi Museum), which is a quaint Gujarati-style house where Mahatma Gandhi lived from 1917 to 1934. The three-story home is now a Gandhi Museum that preserves the spirit of the man who put his nation before himself.

They also passed Dhobi Ghat (Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat), which is a well known open air laundromat. The washers, locally known as Dhobis, work in the open to wash the clothes from Mumbai's hotels and hospitals.

Copenhagen, Denmark, January 2013

George spent a day in Copenhagen with Sigfus, Trond and Madeline. They went up to the top of The Rundetårn (The Round Tower). On the way up the 7.5 turn helical corridor they enjoyed the view from the windows. Here George is looking at the Trinitatis church of which complex the tower is a part.
They made it to the top and here George is enjoying the view of the Copenhagen roof tops. To the left is Vor Frue Kirke Church of Our Lady. The tower right behind George is from The St. Petri Kirke (St. Peter's Church).
George passed a toy store close to the LEGO store at Strøget. The store had two huge LEGO Chima figures on display - Laval and Cragger.
George visited the LEGO store and admired the building on display. Here is checking a model of the famous Nyhavn area of Copenhagen. Nyhavn is also modelled in LEGOLAND Miniland in Billund.
George almost felt at home when he had a close look at the models and really liked the mosaics on the walls.

Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, January 2013

George has visited Rio de Janeiro in Brasil with his good friend Sebastian. Obviously they went all the way to the top of the Corcovado to see the Cristo Redentor statue which is considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world and the 5th largest statue of Jesus in the world.

Later George went to see the Pão de Açúcar Sugarloaf mountain. The Sugarloaf mountain is 396m above sea level.

George had to visit the world famous Ipanema Beach. Ipanema beach gained fame with the start of the bossa nova sound, when its residents Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes created their ode to their neighborhood, "Girl from Ipanema."

And here George is in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden which is the largest and oldest reserve of greeneries of its kind in South East Asia. It is also a premier Institution for botanical and horticultural research in India. The gardens were originally founded in 1786 by Colonel Robert Kyd, containing about 12,000 living plants and over two and half million dried plant specimens in the herbarium collected from all over the world. The memorial George is looking is known as The Kyd Memorial Urn by Thomas Banks (1795).

Finally George visited the principal mosque of Kolkata, The Nakhoda Masjid from 1926. The architect Kuchhi Memon Jamat designed to mosque's prayer hall to have a capacity of 10,000. The Masjid has three domes and two minarets which are 151 feet high. There are an additional 25 smaller minarets which range from 100 feet to 117 feet high. Inside is a superb exhibition of exquisite ornamentation and artistic extravaganza.

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, January 2013

George has just returned from a visit to Luxembourg with Pia and Sisse. He saw the war memorial 'Monument du Souvenir' in Luxembourg City, usually known by the nickname of the Gëlle Fra ('Golden Lady'). It is dedicated to the thousands of Luxembourgers that volunteered for service in the armed forces in the Allied Powers in the First World War. The centrepiece is a 21 metre-tall granite obelisk. At the foot of the obelisk are two Luxembourgish soldiers that volunteered served; the one seen in the photograph is the one mourning his dead compatriot.

Ötztal, Austria, January 2013

George has visited Sölden in Ötztal in Tyrol Austria with Sarah Liv and Povl. Ötzi the Iceman was discovered in the valley to the south. Some Italians even believe he was found so far to the south that it was inside Italy.

And went all the way to the top of one of the BIG 3 for a new George altitude record without oxygen support. 3.250m at Schwarze Schneideberg.

Travelling with Povl, George was more or less forced to try the desserts. Here he is tucking into one of Austrias many specialities, Germknödel. According to wiki the dish is served both as a dessert and as a main course.

And a second famous dessert - on a different day according to Povl. This one is called Kaiserschmarrn (Emperor nonsense) which is more or less a pancake with applesauce.

Tehran, Iran, January 2013

George has visited Tehran in Iran with Janne. They went to the famous Nayeb Restaurant to taste the Nayeb Chelo-kebab. In 1875, when Nayeb-Gholamhossein and his family moved to Tehran, he bought a public bath, and made a pleasant environment to let people taste his recipe of rice, butter and kabab, for the first time. Nayeb’s innovative recipe obtained such a reception, that nowadays chelo-kabab is known as the national cuisine.

George has travelled to Kolkata with Mohammad Aatif and a friend of his. On the train journey getting there they passes the Upper Son Bridge. Now known as Nehru Setu. It is the longest railway bridge in India to have passenger trains crossing.

On the way they passed the Dhanbad Junction. This junction has a rail connectivity with the other major parts of the country such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Nagpur etc. .

Here in front of the Memorial Hall. The building is 184 ft high upto the base of the figure of Victory, which is another 16 ft high. The groups of figures above the north porch represent Motherhood, Prudence and Learning. Surrounding the main dome are figures of Art, Architecture, Justice, Charity etc.

Adjacent to the Victoria Memorial is the M P Birla Planetarium. The second largest planetarium in the world.

They also visited Science City . Science City is the largest science centre in the Indian subcontinent under National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

George has visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was near the city of Ha'il visiting the Hail Cement Company. Ha'il is an oasis city in Nejd in northwestern Saudi Arabia. It is the capital of the Ha'il Province.

George has returned from his skiing holiday to Canazei in Italy with Carsten and Elsebeth. Here George is having a break between the mountain ranges. In the backbround is part of the Sella mountain group. The Sella is a plateau shaped massif in the Dolomites and the highest peak is Piz Boè at 3.151m/ 10,338 ft above sea level.

George has visited Florida with Per and his family. They went to Kennedy Space Center where they saw the rockets that first put NASA astronauts in space.

Here George is in The Rocket Garden in front of the horizontal massive Saturn I-B rocket. The first Saturn I-B vehicle was launched February 26, 1966. The next four were launched July 5 and August 25, 1966, and January 22 and October 11, 1968. The Saturn I-B launched two unmanned CSM (Command Service Module) suborbital flights, one unmanned LM (Lunar Module) orbital flight, and the first manned CSM orbital mission.

George has just returned from Uruguay, which he visited with Henrik. They went to Punta del Este to see the Monumento al Ahogado Monument to the Drowned. The sculpture has become a symbol for Punta del Este since it was completed in 1982. Today it is one of Uruguay's most recognizable landmarks.

George also visited Paysandú where he saw the Monumento a Leandro Gómez at Plaza Constitución. Colonel Leandro Gómez is famous for his heroic defense of Paysandú during the siege of Paysandú lasting from december 3rd 1864 to january 2nd 1865, at the end of which he was executed. The fountain is in fact General Leandro Gómez' mausoleum.

At Plaza Constitución they also saw Basílica Nuestra Señora del Rosario y San Benito de Palermo Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Benedict of Palermo. The church was heavily damaged during the siege in 1864-65.

George has visited Guatemala with Peter. They were in the countryside and George was very popular with the children.

George went to Iximché, a Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican archaeological site in the western highlands of Guatemala. Located on top of a plateau with a natural moat surrounding it, the site was the last stronghold of the Maya in the highlands. None of the remains of the temple are especially large, but it was at this city the Maya held out against the Spanish invaders.

When Iximché finally fell to the Spanish, Pedro de Alvarado established the first Spanish settlement on Guatemalan soil at this location in 1524. The Spanish called the town Santiago and made it the first capital of Guatemala. Today, none of the Spanish structures remain; all that exists at the site are reminders of the site's original inhabitants.

George went to Guatemala City where he saw an open-air concrete relief map of the country in Minerva Park. It was completed in 1905 by Francisco Vela and shows all the country's rivers, lakes, volcanoes, and even its oil fields. To produce the concrete map in 1905, Francisco Vela surveyed the country on foot and horseback. Modern aerial photography and laser tomography have detected only one error of a few feet on one of the map's dozens of mountain peaks.

George has visited Conditori La Glace in Copenhagen with Vibeke. Conditori La Glace is the oldest café in Denmark. Founded in the middle of old Copenhagen on the 8th of October 1870.

George has visited Båstad in Skåne, Sweden with Sarah Liv and her Grandparents. In the house George was wearing his Santa hat.

George visited Hotel Skansen and Tennispaviljongen 'The Tennis Paviilion'. The sculpture shows Marcus Wallenberg "Macke", four times Swedish champion, in the first Swedish Davis Cup team and the first Swede on Wimbledon's center court. The sculptor is Lennart Källström.

George visited Båstad Tennis which is best known for its tennis tournament Swedish Open on the ATP Tour. It has taken place in Båstad each summer since 1948. The tournament boasts the largest number of courts in Sweden. Here George is on Centre Court.

George went into the forest and found the border-stones at Stensån 'Stony Stream'. The border-stones consist of one heart-stone and three pointer-stones. They were erected by the old border between Sweden and Denmark-Norway after The Peace of Brömsebro was concluded on 13 August 1645. It concluded the Torstenson War (Lennart Torstenson Swedish general) a.k.a. the Hannibal War (Hannibal Sehested Norwegian governor-general) after which Denmark had to make huge territorial concessions and exempt Sweden from the Sound Dues, de facto acknowledging the end of the Danish dominium maris baltici. The war was a local conflict that began in 1643 and was part of the larger Thirty Years' War. The border ran along these stones from 1645 to 1659. Today the stones are part of the border between the Swedish provinces of Skåne and Halland.

Finally George visited Sveriges Tennismuseum 'The Swedish Tennis Museum'. The museum also has a Swedish Tennis Hall of Fame. It started in 2003. Each year three persons who have meant a lot to Swedish tennis are elected, both players and coaches. The first ones to be elected were Borg, Edberg and Wilander.

Mysore, Karnataka, India, November 2012

George has visited Mysore (Kannada: ಮೈಸೂರು ) in Karnataka in India with Shikha. It is the second-largest city in the state and is located at the base of the Chamundi Hills. Until 1947, Mysore served as the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore. It is commonly described as the City of Palaces, however, the term "Mysore Palace" specifically refers to palace George visited.

The Palace of Mysore which also known as the Amba Vilas Palace is the official residence of the Wodeyars - the erstwhile royal family of Mysore, and also houses two ceremonial meeting hall of the royal court, so called durbar halls.

George also visited the Sim's Park, a well maintained botanical garden that has several varieties of plants.it is the main attraction of Coonoor the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris, surrounded by tea plantations, at an altitude of 1839 metres. Coonoor is essentially a small tea garden town where the weather remains pleasantly cool throughout the year A popular pastime is birdwatching, as an extensive variety of birds can be spotted.

George has reached Western Australia with Erik and Torben. He has seen one of Perth’s most popular statues. It’s situated in Hay Street shopping mall and depicts Percy Button, a street entertainer from 1920s to 50s. He used to do handstands and somersaults to amuse patrons waiting to get into cinemas and theatres.

In Perth it is not just a street that's named after George. The tallest building Central Park has a big George sign at the top. The building measures 226 m (741 ft) from its base to the roof, and 249 m (817 ft) to the tip of its communications mast. Yes, Torben is wearing a FC Barcelona football shirt...

Today George visited ARKEN Museum of Modern Art just south of Copenhagen. Among other things from the museum's "Skaber Aber Fælleskaber" George saw Jeppe Hein's "Spiral Labyrinth" from 2006.

ARKEN museum had an exhibition called INDIA : ART TODAY. INDIA : ART NOW is the biggest exhibition in the museum's history. It is showing 13 of the best artists and artist groups from India. George saw Subodh Gupta's "Terminal" from 2010.

In the museum’s first fashion exhibition INDIA : FASHION NOW, ARKEN takes a close look at seven Indian fashion designers. George saw the Indian Jitish Kallat's "Cry of the Gland" from 2009, which shows a lot of shirt pockets. Thanks to the shirt pocket model Claus, George tried a shirt pocket of his own.

From ARKEN's Damien Hirst collection George saw "For the Love of God". This is an example of Hirst employing symbols of death and eternity in his works. The diamond-dust silk-screened image unites the memento mori symbol associated with death with a material that is thought to be inherently unchanging.

Islamabad, Pakistan, November 2012

George has just returned from Islamabad in Pakistan with Kasper and Klaus. They were fortunate enough to go and see the Faisal Mosque. It is the largest mosque in South Asia and one of the largest mosques in the world. It can accommodate 10,000 worshipers in its main prayer hall. The mosque's architecture is modern and unique, lacking both the traditional domes and arches of most other mosques around the world.

They also went to see the Pakistan Monument. The blooming flower shape of the monument represents Pakistan's progress as a rapidly developing country and the nation's four provinces and three territories. The four main petals of the monument represent the four provinces (Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh), while the three smaller petals represent the three territories (Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas).
